Pomegranate Vanilla Bean Naked Cake

It's been pretty cold and rainy the last week, so doing anything outside is pretty much out of the question. I hate being cold, especially cold and wet. So, let baking season begin!
Ingredients
1 pomegranate
2 sticks butter
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs
1 1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
If you're not using the homemade vanilla extract, you'll need a vanilla bean also.
Frosting recipe can be found here.
Directions
1. Butter and flour two round baking pans.
2. Beat together butter and sugar in a stand mixer with paddle attachment. Add eggs, then vanilla (also 1/2 a vanilla bean if not using the homemade version). In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix the flour mixture into the butter mixture alternating in batches with the milk. Mix until smooth. Divide batter between the two round pans and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
3. Make frosting while cake is baking.
4. Assemble cake. Cut cake in half horizontally to make two layers. Start by putting a thick layer of frosting on the bottom cake. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds. Then add the second cake and repeat. Frost the sides with just a thin layer, so the cake and berries show through. Top with pomegranate seeds.

Apple Raspberry Crostada
Friday, November 6, 2015

So many apples! I was assigned to make a sweet treat for a girls night, so of course I wanted to make something with ingredients that are in season and fall-ish. Is it still fall?
I've made a galette before, and I've been wanting to make a crostada for awhile. I found lots on Pinterest using pears, so I just got an idea of the ingredients and threw this all together. Enjoy!
Ingredients
Pie dough (My favorite recipe can be found here)
2 apples, pealed and cut
A few raspberries
3 tablespoons sugar, divided
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
Lemon juice from 1/2 lemon
Directions
1. In a bowl, coat apples with lemon juice. In a separate bowl combine 2 tablespoons sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Transfer only apples, leaving the lemon juice, into the sugar/flour/cinnamon mixture and stir to coat.
2. Roll out pie dough into a 10 inch circle.
3. Place apple mixture into center, and fold up the sides of the dough. Add raspberries as desired.
4. Dice up butter and place on top of the fruit mixture.
5. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar onto the dough.
6. Bake at 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden brown.

Night Time Skin Care Routine
Sunday, November 1, 2015
My night time skincare routine is pretty basic. Sometimes I'll get crazy and do a face mask. (See my top 7 face masks post here). I try to do a face mask at least once a week, but honestly I've been slacking on my skincare lately.
I'll start by washing my face with Shiseido cream cleanser and my Clarisonic brush. After, I pat my face dry, (Don't pull or tug on your skin!) and put on my awesome robot mask, the Illumask, for 15 minutes. I bought the acne one because it actually has both the red and blue lights, whereas the anti-aging one only has red. (Red is for anti-aging, and blue is to kill bacteria).
Then, I moisturize using the StriVectin retinol eye treatment on and around my eyes, ROC deep wrinkle night cream on my neck and face, and Dr. Lipp's nipple balm on my lips. (Trust me this stuff is incredible, especially in the winter).
Lastly I put Cetaphil lotion on my body and if my hands are feeling super dry, ( they usually do) I will wear my Bliss glamour gloves for a bit while I watch TV. I've tried to sleep with them on before and I end up ripping them off in my sleep.
I listed all the products I mentioned below, so check them out. I love them all!
Do you have a night time skincare product you absolutely love?! I'd love to know!
XO, N
